Our side character is Myrtle because she selling her body for money, and higher in status. Myrtle is the mistress of Tom who lives with his wife Daisy.Myrtle believes someday Tom will leave his wife to be with her. She also believes that by sleeping with Tom that she is going to get higer in society. Myrtle is the average woman who will do anything to get by and to be in love.

The theme of our picture is "Hollowness Of Old Money"; the reason why we chose this is to make people understand how Fitzgerald sees old money in the novel. Fitzgerald explains old money is the class of society that is born into money. these people dont fight or get involved with shady things in society. The bad thing about old money is that when things get tough they retreat back into their money like nothing ever happened.

The three symbols are money, pearls, and black/white color scheme. The money symbolizes old money and what old money can do without getting caught up in inappropriate shady things. The pearls symbolizes that Tom spoils Myrtle as his Mistress meaning shes hollow and loves objects from him. The black/white color scheme symbolizes that nothing was colored or happy with their realationship. Because honestly Tom sees Myrtle as nothing but a dog in heat and she sees him as nothing but a chance to be big in society.

My thoughts on the theme is back then if you had money; you coukld get away with murder. people with old money could get out iof everything but people who have to work for their money ther elooking down upon. Myrtle was neither old money or new money she was below everything but she did what she had to do to make it in the society. This reflects the American dream becuase everybody wants to make big in the woeld but no one wants put there hands together to fix it. During this time your either born in money or your not.
